Construction

The mittens are knit from the cuff up. Increases are made for the thumb gusset. Once the thumb gusset is completed, the stitches from the thumb gusset rest on waste yarn or a spare needle while the remaining hand is knit. The stitch pattern is worked along the top of the hand before binding off. After the hand has been completed, stitches are picked up around the thumb opening before the thumb gusset stitches are placed on the needle. The thumb is knit in the round until correct length to bind off.
