Superwash wool yarn, a free knitting pattern, and lots of cables helped create my newest handknit. This post shares the details of the socks I recently casted off.

Yarn: Malabrigo Sock in color Whales Road
Needles: US 1 (2.25 mm) double pointed needles
Pattern: Mariesi by Marie Amelie Designs (free on Ravelry)

What I Enjoyed:

  • Interesting cable stitch pattern

What Bothered Me:

  • Ladders in knitting due to uneven tension when switching to new double pointed needle

Materials

I purchased the Malabrigo Sock yarn from a yarn shop in Lynchburg, VA. Superwash sock yarn isn’t common to find in my stash, so I picked up this colorful skein at the yarn shop.

Notes

This was my first experience knitting socks toe-up. I’ve been partial over the years to cuff-down sock construction. I like a heel flap and gusset. I truly enjoyed knitting toe-up socks for the first time.

I followed the size for a finished sock circumference of 8 1/4 inches.

You may remember I had a little trouble with ladders forming between the stitches on my double pointed needles. I had uneven tension here.

I discussed how I fixed this issue in a YouTube video.

I enjoyed how engaging this pattern was with all the cables. I especially enjoyed the cables running along the back of the leg.

The pattern was well-written. There are no written instructions for the chart, but I highly appreciate the separate charts for each size. This made the chart easy to follow while knitting.

I would knit this pattern again but with a less colorful yarn. In my opinion, the cables would be able to shine better.

Conclusion

Overall, I was pleased with this pattern and the socks that resulted from it. What was the most recent pair of socks that you knitted? Are you hoping to knit a pair, or more, this summer?

Have a blessed day, friends! I will be back with more to share soon.

Happy knitting to you!
